I saw this chance on Monday, talked about it on Tuesday and then waited, quietly. This waiting business would be repeated on the hill as we needed to be patient while the day took its time to come alive.
Thermalwise, a trigger temp of ~12C reached by midday giving cumulus base 2500-3000ft.
All well worth the wait as it was a surprisingly a good day, we were rewarded by being patient for once, I launched followed Johnny and Dave Matthews into the best buoyant bit of air of the day while the earlier launching pilots ended up at the bottom struggling in marginal ridge lift.
My lovely new glider added another launch and climb straight to base flight to its list, a good record so far, amazing really.
Notes to self:
Relaxing before launch is a good thing, letting your mind wander avoiding traffic when you could stick better to your thermalling is not – remaining mentally focused on the thermal degrades your choices once you reach cb – following others is a poor way to get the best out of the air.
