feeling the air

enjoying some altitude... a little...

Other pilots were up at launch at 08:30, obviously they missed that lesson at with our instructor John whose days don’t start till well after 10am. I on the other hand had paid attention in class and had made coffee, a nice breakfast of grilled bacon with sausages and poached eggs, took my time to make a very tasty packed lunch for later… then, and only then, did I put my glider on the car and drive to the hill.

Nicos pointing out it’s that way…

The day started breezy with full cloud cover, in the distance there was some blue and reports came in that it was extensive, we began to see ridge scraping paragliders breaking the horizon, then the sun began to warm our skin so the time to launch was approaching.

My flight was scratchy at first, in fact for a long time, it was fun for a while to dodge the seemingly static PG’s but it was also distracting as they filled the sky more comprehensively. So after gaining enough height, just, off I went to the trig point for more scratching, practice punctuated with 3 nice climbs up to nearish CB.

After an informative chat at chess night this week I put some of the advice into practice, really enjoying my change in focus, forgetting about the ridge, in fact, forgetting about almost everything I simply concentrated on the air and getting up, it was simple but fantastic…

Getting down I should have paid more attention to, what a plonker, not only did I drift down below takeoff – I totally forgot how to flare…
